No phone calls about jobs, please. We will not call you back. Read this entire job description and if you still have questions, email them to the address at the bottom of this section.

Let me know if:

You are a people-pleaser, you like to make people feel good about themselves and you like to connect with them. You are quick-thinking, quick-moving, and a good decision-maker. You know how to solve problems. You are tidy. You are able to focus on the task at hand and make sure a job is complete and immaculate.

You are good at learning new things and keeping them on file in your head for correct recall on-the-spot. You don't panic when you do temporarily forget something. You are a good listener and you can follow written and oral instructions. You can make a careful judgement when there are conflicting or changing instructions. You know when it's appropriate to call someone for info or an alert or leave a note for another employee.

You double-check your work. When things happen (they always do), you can recover quickly and move on. You are honest and good at making amends with people. You are able to take in directions and suggestions for change. You are not concerned with how the person you are doing work for "should" or "could" be doing things. You are ok with doing the work their way to make them happy.

You also love cats, and you are able to give them oral medications, even if they are hissing and growling. That does not faze you in general, but you have the common sense to know when to avoid disaster and injury from said cat. You are not afraid of needles, and you can give insulin injections to cats. If I'm really lucky, you know how to give subcutaneous fluids to the most wiggly of cats.

You need your own reliable transportation. (This means a car, not a public bus or a bicycle.) You need to respond to all assignment requests in a timely fashion each day, by phone, email, or text message. You must accept a certain percentage of job requests. You must have internet access to use our companywide scheduling and assignment software.

This job is very physical.

Duties include cat feeding -- which may involve handling raw meat & supplements, changing water, cleaning the cat feeding area, washing cat food and water bowls, utensils and cans, cleaning up cat vomit & spot cleaning floors & rugs, cleaning up cat feces or urine, scooping litter boxes, cleaning litter box areas, emptying and washing litter boxes, taking out garbage and recycling, bringing in mail and newspapers, opening and closing curtains and blinds, and giving cats oral medications and injections with needles.

Not all cats are cooperative with medications, so this job also requires you to track down cats, crawl under beds, reach under furniture or move furniture, and the like. Persistence is required. Oh, and the job also includes petting cats, and keeping them company, and adoring them. You might also be asked to be in touch with customers while they are away to give them updates on their cats. It does snow here, so you may need to be able to shovel a path clear for yourself in the winter. Catsitting is never cancelled due to weather.

You must be able to bend. You must be able to move furniture. You must be able to lift 30 pounds. You must be able to walk up and down stairs multiple times in 30 minutes, while carrying things like litter boxes or bags of cat litter. You must have good manual dexterity, to be able to snap litter box lids on tightly, turn keys in locks, and handle all types of door knobs and latches. You must have good eyesight (corrected or natural) to read small print. You must have good or corrected hearing.

Pay starts at $7.00 per visit. (A visit is typically 30 minutes in the client's home.) Employees are reimbursed 30 cents per mile driven, within a predefined territory, for work. So, you can live in a town not listed, below, but reimbursement is only for driving within the town(s) with your customers.

I pay you to meet new clients. I pay for workers compensation insurance, disability insurance, federal and New York unemployment insurance, and 50% of your social security payment each pay. I pay for petsitting insurance to cover your work.

A criminal background check and sex offender status check will be done for any finalist. I do have an employee manual with explanations of expectations and rights. Training is provided as needed.

If all of the above describes you, maybe you would be interesting in applying for a cat sitting job with Twenty Toes Cat Sitting.

I will not respond to any phone calls about the jobs.

I am hiring on a rolling basis. Therefore there is no deadline to apply and it could be a while before you hear anything back from me.
